Kay Lemons helping a patient find reading glasses. Kay came on her first trip with Meadowbrook in February 2011. During her trip, one of the team doctors shared that a lot of the patients being seen in the clinic were suffering from cataracts and a very easy way to prevent cataracts would be the use of sunglasses. Kay had suffered from cataracts as well and took great compassion on those affected all around her. For the team’s trip this year she purchased 300 pairs of sunglasses and the team received a donation of another 700. The team also brought 300 pairs of readers and about 25 pairs of donated prescription glasses. Kay enjoyed passing out glasses all week, both giving the gift of sight and helping people better protect their eyes. An elderly woman came and said she could no longer read her Bible. First Kay helped her find a prescription pair and then a pair of readers to wear with the prescription glasses. For the first time in a long time, the woman would be able to read her Bible. Kay says, “She cried, and then we all cried with her.”
