The mission team from the First Assemblies of God Church in Orange Country, California visited the community of San Jose El Naranjo (SJEN), where they helped build a sidewalk and a road. These were preliminary and mandated projects that will make way for the construction of a new government-funded steel bridge. The government’s decision to invest $80,000 dollars (the cost of the new bridge) to improve infrastructure in SJEN has resulted from local development initiatives and has been viewed as a major victory by church and community leaders. The new bridge will benefit 3000 community members.

Mission team, from First Assemblies of God Church in Orange County, California, touring San Jose El Naranjo (SJEN). The team worked alongside local Salvadorans during one of the hottest weeks in July and helped build a sidewalk and a road.

Due to successful church and community organizing in SJEN, the government has decided to construct a new steel bridge and tear down the old, benefiting 3000 people. New bridge will be built after construction of sidewalk, road and method for diverting rain water from main street is completed. Team from OC First Assemblies of God church in California is here to assist with these preliminary projects.

Martin is amember of OC First Assemblies of God missions team. His Mexican heritage landed him in the role of translator, facilitating communication between his team members and the locals.With his fluency in Spanish and outgoing personality, Martin was able to make a lot of new friends that week.

Cristina is 9 years old. Her family's home was located across the street from where the sidewalk was being built. She was always looking for ways to help with the work and for opportunities to strike up conversation with the visitors

Jason is an OC First Assemblies mission team member and will begin his freshman year of college this fall; once cement is mixed it is shoveled into buckets to be poured over the rocks, not an easy job since the cement is extremely heavy

It is not the case in every rural community, but in SJEN and surrounding towns it is very common to see pigs tied up along the side of the road, taking mud baths in the middle of the road and mingeling with the dogs and chickens in people’s front yards

Corn is fundamental to the Salvadoran diet and is produced on practically every small farm in the country.Most community members in San Jose El Naranjo are subsistance farmers
