Miriam and Her Children Outside the New Home
Maria Miriam is the mother of two boys and a girl. She only works for part of the year, selling fruit in the summer and picking beans during the harvest earning about $2.50 a day. This income was simply not enough for her to make changes to her humble home.

The Old and the New
Maria Miriam’s old roof was completely damaged and the wood posts used to sustain the adobe walls were rotting as a result of their age. Also, every rainstorm threatened her life and the lives of her children.

Olga Melani Medrano has had a remarkable journey. She has endured conditions of extreme poverty with seven children. Her conditions are better now that she has the relief of having a secure roof for her and her children.

Josefa Sura, 50 years old, has never been able to work due to poor health. Her son helps with expenses through his job in the corn fields, but their circumstances prevented them from having a secure home.

Josefa’s timidness was interrupted by the joy and gratitude that came from receiving a new home. She simply says, “A poor person could never dream of having a house like this… But thanks to God, I've been given one.”

Old and New
When Maria Miriam was first notified that she would have a new house, she thought this was another lie or a promise that would be forgotten, but she timidly states, “I think the church’s heart is affected when they see people in need and so they lend a hand… Because not just anyone is willing to help someone in need. But they even helped me carry the materials for the house.”

New House, New Life!
Olga Medrano is simply grateful; she knows that her resources would never had been enough to have a secure roof on her own. The collaboration between friends in the community and the local church has impacted her life greatly.
