HOUSING INITIATIVES

A house not only provides protection from the weather, but can act as a foundation for a family's economic activities and relationships as well. After the 2001 earthquakes, thousands of families lost their homes throughout El Salvador . In one community, El Tinteral, an entire village was created to house refugees who were unable to rebuild from the rubble. Through the outreach of three local churches, and the funds from partners in the U.S. , ENLACE has built over 200 homes in El Tinteral.

ENLACE works with churches and communities to use Biblical criteria when choosing recipients of new homes. We walk them through the process of looking for opportunities to restore families to having the foundation a house can provide. We also provide technical assitance to design houses that will better handle earthquakes, as well as provide project management for the actual construction.
